Gertrude Bernard McAlexander age 94 of Martinsville passed away on Wednesday August 31, 2016 at Blue Ridge Rehab Center. She was born December 15, 1921 in Franklin County to the late Silas and Hattie McCrickard Bernard. In addition to her parents, she was also predeceased by two sisters, Julia Walker and Estelle Lovell.

She was a member of Jones Chapel Church of the Brethren, and was a homemaker.

She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Herbert McAlexander of the home, one son Larry McAlexander and wife Peggy Bryant McAlexander of Bassett, one daughter, Bonnie M. Hatchett and husband Mike Hatchett of Bassett, one brother Douglas Bernard of Penhook, two sisters, Dorothy Martin and Shiree Ashby both of Penhook, four grandchildren, Allison H.
Del Percio and husband Stephen of Seattle, WA, Jessica M. Gillispie and husband Steven of Collinsville, Lindsey M. Mabe and husband Andy of Christiansburg, VA, Bryan McAlexander and fiancé Lyndsey Pennington both of Martinsville, and four great grandchildren.

Her funeral service will be Sunday September 4, 2016 at 2:00 PM in the Roselawn Chapel with Terry Young officiating. Interment will follow in Roselawn Burial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM on Saturday September 3, 2016 in the Roselawn Chapel. Online condolences may be entered at www.roselawnchapelfuneralhome.com.
