Obituary for Gilbert Thomas Riggs Jr.

Gilbert Thomas  Riggs Jr.
Gilbert Thomas Riggs, Jr. age 89, passed away on Thursday Oct. 27, 2016 at Memorial Hospital of Martinsville. He was born Jan. 10, 1927 in Montcalm, WV to the late Gilbert T., Sr. and Rachel Hart Riggs. In addition to his parents, he was also predeceased by his wife, Edith Marie Seay Riggs, one son, Rodney L. Riggs, his brother, Kenneth Riggs, six sisters, Nellie Kinzer, Freda Muncey, Macell Miles, Hazel White, Lorraine Glass and Margie Shrader.

Mr. Riggs was of the Methodist faith, and retired from A.T. Massey Mines in WV after 36 years of service. He was a WWII veteran who served in the US Navy, and also was a member of the UMWA.

He is survived by three sons, Gilbert T. Riggs, III of Webster, FL, Dennis L. Riggs of Myrtle Beach, SC, and David W. Riggs of Collinsville, two daughters, Sydney R. Ramsey and Barbara R. Toler both of Collinsville, two sisters, Dorothy Hill of Collinsville, and Elizabeth Jones of Montcalm, WV, eleven grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be Monday Oct. 31, 2016 in the Roselawn Chapel at 10:00 am with Dr. Greg Hodges officiating. Interment will follow in Roselawn Burial Park. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Sunday Oct. 30, 2016 in the Roselawn Chapel, and at other times at the home on 4318 Daniel Creek Road, Martinsville.
