Obituary for Mary Lucille ""Miss Lucy"" Hatcher (Rogers)

Mary Lucille ""Miss Lucy"" Hatcher (Rogers)
Mary Lucille Hatcher, affectionately known as “Miss Lucy”, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday Dec. 24, 2016 while at her daughter’s home. She was born Dec. 11, 1924 in Stuart, VA to the late Jesse and Louvie Rodgers Rogers. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Webster Daniel “W.D.” Hatcher, two brothers, Jerry and Curt Rogers, and one sister, Colleen Rakes.

Miss Lucy was a member of First Baptist Church of Martinsville, a homemaker, and had a great love of bluegrass and old time gospel music. Her family paid this tribute to her; “Miss Lucy was loved and respected by many, and all were inspired by her quiet strength and belief in God. Miss Lucy’s greatest gift to others was her gentle reminder to be thankful. She grew up on a tobacco farm during the Great Depression, and believed in working hard and always telling the truth.”

She is survived by her son, Ted Hatcher of Martinsville, her daughter, Tami Hatcher of Horsepasture, special daughter and caregiver Rachel Tibbs, one sister Melba Stevens of Columbia, SC, and her devoted canine, “Daisy”. The family would like to thank Sharon Martin and Latasha Bassett of Liberty HomeCare and Hospice for their love and compassion during this time.

Miss Lucy’s graveside service will be Tuesday Dec. 27, 2016 at 2:00 pm in Roselawn Burial Park with Pastor Jimmy Wood officiating. Miss Lucy loved all creatures great and small, therefore, in lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in her memory be made to the Martinsville Henry County SPCA, 132 Joseph Martin Hwy., Martinsville, VA 24112.
