Obituary for Samuel Key "Sam" Rucker

Samuel Key "Sam"  Rucker
Samuel Key “Sam” Rucker age 59 of Rocky Mount passed away on Sunday June 11, 2017 at his home. Sam was born March 21, 1958 in Roanoke to the late James Hammet and Vashti Juliette Weber Rucker. In addition to his parents, he was also predeceased by his brother James H. Rucker, Jr.

Sam was a lifelong member of Rocky Mount UMC, a graduate of Franklin County High School Class of 1976, attended Ferrum College, and received his Funeral Service degree from John Tyler Comm. College. He served as manager of Roselawn Chapel for over 10 years, worked at Norris Funeral Service for 10 years, and was still working as a director and embalmer at Roselawn Chapel. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge.

Sam is survived by his wife of 35 years, Debbie F. Rucker of the home, three daughters, Dr. Naomi Simpson and husband Ashley of Winchester, Ruth Eva Rucker and Laura Key Rucker, both of Rocky Mount, one sister, Linda Dell Hubbard of Bethesda, MD, five grandchildren, James Anthony Trail, Samuel Michael Tosh, and Abigail Lynn Hannula all of Rocky Mount, Juliette Jean Simpson and Braden Arthur “George” Simpson both of Winchester.

Sam’s Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday June 17, 2017 at 2:00 PM at Rocky Mount UMC with Rev. Will Waller and Rev. Dr. J.D. Harmon officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, and at the home. In lieu of flowers donations in memory of Sam Rucker should be sent to Rocky Mount UMC, 35 N.
