Herbert Bunyan  McAlexander
Herbert Bunyan McAlexander, age 99 of Martinsville passed away on December 20, 2017. He was born in Patrick County on July 2, 1918 to the late Bunyan and Ula Harmon McAlexander. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Gertrude McAlexander in 2016, and two sisters, Eva Cockram and Aldean Griffith.

He attended Jones Chapel Church of the Brethren and had retired after 30 years of service with the Martinsville Post Office. He was a WWII U.S. Army veteran.

He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Peggy McAlexander of Bassett and his daughter and son-in-law Bonnie and Mike Hatchett also of Bassett, four grandchildren, Bryan (Lyndsey) McAlexander, Jessica (Steven) Gillispie, Lindsey (Andy) Mabe and Allison (Stephen) Del Percio and five great-grandchildren, Carly, Ryan, Nolan, Charlotte and Libby.

His funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 23, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. in the Roselawn Chapel with Pastor Diana Lovett officiating the service. Interment will follow with Military honors presented by the Martinsville Henry County Veterans Honor Guard in the Roselawn Burial Park. The family will receive friends on Friday, December 22, 2017 from 5-7 p.m. in the chapel of Roselawn. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in memory of Mr. McAlexander may be made to Jones Chapel Church of the Brethren, 2390 Figsboro Road, Martinsville, VA 24112, or Grace Network of Martinsville, P.O.
