Obituary for William Joe "Billy" Meadows

William Joe "Billy"  Meadows
William Joe (Billy) Meadows, 87, of 706 Beechnut Lane passed away on Monday, January 29, 2018 at home surrounded by his family. He was born November 6, 1930 to Joseph Homer and Lessie Martin Meadows both deceased. He was also preceded in death by a step-great grandson Quentin Alan Redd.

He served five months in the U.S. Army in Fort Jackson, S.C. during the Korean war in 1952 before receiving an honorable discharge. Mr. Meadows worked many years as a route salesman for several milk companies; Martinsville Creamery, Sealtest, Coble and Pet. He also worked for Frito-Lay Inc. until he became disabled due to blindness.

He was very much involved in the sport of bowling having at one time been part owner of Druid Bowling Lanes. He was a member of the Henry County Bowling Assoc. serving on the Board of Directors, Secretary/Treasurer and secretary to a number of leagues. When it was organized he was elected a member of the Henry County Bowling Hall of Fame. Later he was also elected as a member of the Virginia Bowling Hall of Fame.

He was a long time member of Chatham Heights Baptist Church and served as a Sunday School teacher and a member of several committees.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Marlene Minter Meadows, three daughters, Kathryn (Kaye) Meadows Lawson (husband, Jerry), Susan Meadows Dove (husband Wayne), and Denise Meadows Gilley (husband Rick), one grandson, Wade Matthew Dove, two step granddaughters, Nichole Gilley Redd (husband Chris), Revonda Michelle Gilley and five step great grandchildren, Kayla Nichole and Cameron Alan Redd, Savannah Nichole, Tyler Wayne and Kayra Shawn Carr.

A memorial service will take place at Chatham Heights Baptist Church, 1235 Chatham Rd. on Thursday, February 1, 2018 at 3:00 p.m. with Dr. Michael Hatfield officiating and visitation one hour prior to the service. A private burial will take place in Roselawn Burial Park.
